Milliepede
The Millipede - an insect belonging to the class of Diplopoda - does not have, as the name implies, 1000 feet, but at most 115. However, when, during the early 1960's, I began work on my multi-panel Millipede (following the Centipede) it was meant to be 1000 ft long.
Almost forty years later, it is now well over 3,000 ft long and still growing, with no end in sight. It is a work of continuous evolution, transformation and mutation. While there is some intended order to this process, this order is however - like in all other multi panel projects - not absolute.
Ultimately, everything and everybody is evolving - either by chance or design, or both.
